At the time I purchased the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM in 2013, it was the least expensive "L" lens available. I intended to do more macro photography. But I quickly learned ... macro is hard. But I gave it my best try anyway. I realized that I am simply too impatient to shoot macro photography. But, this lens was also an amazing portrait lens. I also used it for landscape and at times, as a general walk around lens. It was one of the sharpest lens I ever used. It was really a very good all around lens. Solidly built, no focus breathing, and super snappy. Plus, it handled light and color beautifully. I finally parted with this lens in 2020 when I jumped feet first into the Canon R ecosystem. Yes, there is a RF version of this lens. Perhaps one day ...
